Faakhir Mehmood is a Pakistani singer, musician, music composer and producer who has played an important role in Pakistan’s contemporary pop music. He first became widely known as a member of the popular band Awaz before beginning a successful solo career. His best-known songs include “Dil Na Lagay,” “Dilruba,” “Mahi Ve,” “Jiya Na Jaye,” “Kabhi Kabhi Pyar Mein” and “Din Mein Teri Yaad.”
Faakhir Mehmood was born on 20 April 1973 in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and grew up with a strong interest in music. He studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila. His technical education later became useful in his interest in recording equipment and audio production.
His early interest in music began at a young age, and he eventually developed his skills as a keyboard player, singer and composer.
Faakhir began his professional music journey in the early 1990s. During his university years, he met Haroon Rashid and guitarist Asad Ahmed, and together they formed the Pakistani pop band Awaz in 1992. Faakhir worked primarily as the band's keyboardist and supporting vocalist.
Awaz went on to become an important part of Pakistan's 1990s pop scene, producing popular songs that connected strongly with young audiences.
Faakhir's years with Awaz were an important foundation for his career. The band became known for songs such as “Aye Jawan,” “Mr. Fraudiay,” “Main Na Manoo Haar” and other popular tracks.
Faakhir remained associated with Awaz until the band separated around 2000, after which he and the other members developed their individual careers.
After Awaz, Faakhir began working on his solo career. His first major solo album was Aatish, which introduced a new phase of his musical journey.

Aatish was Faakhir's debut solo album. It was released in 2002 after he had begun working on the project in 2000.
The album included “Dil Na Lagay,” “Kabhi Kabhi Pyar Mein” and “Dilruba,” helping Faakhir establish a recognizable solo sound after his time with Awaz.
Faakhir followed his debut album with Sub Tun Sohniyeh in 2003. The album continued his pop-oriented musical style and added more romantic and contemporary songs to his growing catalogue.
In 2005, Faakhir released Mantra, one of the important albums of his solo career. The album featured songs including “Mahi Ve,” “Jiya Na Jaye,” “Sub Ton Sohniye,” “Kudi,” “Preetan,” “Din Mein Teri Yaad,” “Mantra,” “Kaash” and “Tauba Hai.”
The album also featured “Jiya Na Jaye” as a duet with Indian singer Sunidhi Chauhan, further connecting Faakhir's music with the wider South Asian music market.

Faakhir is not only a singer but also a composer and music producer. His engineering background contributed to his interest in audio technology and studio production.
He established the TwentyFourSeven recording studio in Karachi, which has worked on projects involving artists, record labels, television, film and advertising.
Faakhir has also contributed to Pakistani film music. In 2015, he was among the producers who worked on the soundtrack of the Pakistani film Ho Mann Jahaan.
His work in film demonstrates his broader role in Pakistan's music industry beyond performing as a singer.
Faakhir became part of Coke Studio Pakistan Season 9 as one of the music directors in 2016. One of his notable projects was the new version of “Afreen Afreen,” performed by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Momina Mustehsan.
He also performed “Dilruba Na Raazi,” a Pashto traditional folk song, with Zeb Bangash during the same season.
Faakhir's music is primarily associated with Pakistani pop, while his work also incorporates Eastern musical influences, romantic melodies and contemporary production.

In July 2026, ARY Digital also reported a reunion between Faakhir and his former Awaz bandmate Haroon Rashid. The report noted that although fans were asking about an Awaz reunion, the two had not seriously decided on one at that time.
