Atif Aslam is one of Pakistan’s most influential and internationally recognized singers. Born on March 12, 1983, in Wazirabad, Punjab, Atif began his professional musical journey in the early 2000s. His breakthrough came through the band Jal, where his vocals on “Aadat” quickly attracted a huge young audience. He later established himself as a solo artist and released successful albums including Jal Pari, Doorie and Meri Kahani.
Over the years, Atif Aslam has successfully moved between Pakistan’s music industry and international entertainment. His songs for Bollywood films introduced his voice to millions of listeners across South Asia, while his live concerts established him as a major international Pakistani performer.
Early Career and Breakthrough with “Aadat”
Atif Aslam’s rise began with the Pakistani pop-rock scene. His association with Jal and the popularity of “Aadat” made him one of the most recognizable new voices in Pakistan.
The song became more than an early hit; it became an important part of the Pakistani pop-rock movement of the early 2000s. Atif subsequently launched his solo career and released Jal Pari, which helped establish his identity as an individual artist.
His later albums, particularly Doorie and Meri Kahani, strengthened his position as one of Pakistan’s leading singers. Doorie also earned him the Lux Style Award for Best Album, demonstrating the industry's recognition of his growing musical influence.
Atif Aslam’s Bollywood Success
A major turning point in Atif Aslam’s career came with his entry into Indian cinema. His Bollywood playback debut was associated with “Woh Lamhe Woh Baatein” from Zeher, after which he became one of the most popular Pakistani playback voices among Indian audiences.
He subsequently recorded a long list of successful Bollywood songs. Some of his best-known tracks include “Pehli Nazar Mein,” “Tera Hone Laga Hoon,” “Tu Jaane Na,” “Jeene Laga Hoon,” “Be Intehaan,” “Jeena Jeena” and “Dil Diyan Gallan.”
His performance of “Pehli Nazar Mein” earned him an IIFA Award, further confirming his impact on Indian film music.
Atif's Bollywood work helped him develop a truly cross-border audience. His romantic songs in particular became associated with memorable film moments and helped establish his signature emotional singing style.
Atif Aslam and Coke Studio
One of Atif Aslam’s most celebrated musical achievements came through Coke Studio Pakistan. His rendition of the legendary qawwali “Tajdar-e-Haram”, originally associated with the Sabri Brothers, became a defining performance of his career.
Released as part of Coke Studio Season 8, the performance introduced a younger generation to the traditional qawwali while maintaining Atif's contemporary vocal identity. The recording became a major digital success and was reported as the first Pakistani music video to cross 100 million YouTube views.
Atif also contributed performances to other Coke Studio seasons, including songs such as “Charka Nolakha,” “Rabba Sacheya,” “Dholna,” “Aaye Kuch Abr,” “Mubarik Mubarik” and “Wohi Khuda Hai.”
His Coke Studio appearances demonstrated that his abilities extended beyond commercial pop and film songs into spiritual, classical-inspired and traditional Pakistani music.
